Jakarta , 3 Desember 2024 – Basing their sound on the Jamaican-born ska music, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra have crafted their
original style by putting their unique spin on nearly every musical genre, which they call “Tokyo ska.”
They made their debut in 1989 with their album, “Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra” (often called “The
Yellow Album”) and currently consist of nine members after several lineup changes.
Even as they established a place for themselves in the industry as an instrumental band, Tokyo Ska
Paradise Orchestra have featured guest vocalists since 2001, with compositions by the members and
lyrics by their baritone sax player, Atsushi Yanaka. Their “Vocal tracks” single trilogy, featuring Takao
Tajima, Yusuke Chiba, and Tamio Okuda respectively, was a runaway success in Japan, and their
2002 album “Stompinʼ On DOWN BEAT ALLEY” was a smash hit upon release, charting at #1 and
selling 500,000 copies. The bandʼs sensational collaborations with vocalists such as Hiroto Komoto,
Ken Yokoyama, Hiroji Miyamoto, and Kazutoshi Sakurai, as well as not to mention a second
collaboration trilogy with the bands 10-FEET, MONGOL800, and ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION are all
hot topics to this day.
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra have performed in 31 countries since their 1989 debut and have made
appearances at many of the world’s most prestigious music festivals, including Glastonbury
(England), Eurockéennes (France), the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Vive Latino (Mexico),
and Lollapalooza Chile. They are also the first ever Japanese artist to perform on the main stage at
Coachella 2013 (United States).
Other international achievements by Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra include winning “Best Alternative
Performance” in October 2019 at Mexico’s biggest music awards, Las Lunas del Auditorio, for thrilling
Mexican audiences with their performances over the years, and performing live at the closing
ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in August 2021.
As the band celebrates their 35th anniversary in 2024, the band continues to proudly uphold their
“NO BORDERS” mantra at the forefront of the Japanese music scene, expanding their “Tokyo ska
paradise.”
On November 16, 2024, they held their first stadium concert, “Skapara Koshien,” at Hanshin Koshien
